Logan’s Freedom Ride Rolls On: A benefit to support Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy and Logan Severance, a nine-year old boy living with the disease.

On Wednesday, August 6, 2008, friends of Logan Severance and members of the San Francisco Giants will be hosting the second annual Logan’s Freedom Ride benefit event at Apartment 24 nightclub in San Francisco.  Several Giants members will be in attendance and will also serve as guest bartenders.  The event will include a silent auction and raffle, with proceeds benefiting the LFR fund and the FSMA foundation.  Tips and door charge will also be donated to the cause.  Last year, the event raised over $20,000, which helped the Severance family purchase a wheelchair accessible van.  Proceeds from this year’s event will aid in repairs to their home in order to make it wheelchair accessible.  A portion of the funds will also be donated directly to the FSMA foundation.

SMA is a motor neuron disease that affects the voluntary muscles used for activities such as crawling, walking, head and neck control, and swallowing, and is the #1 genetic killer of children under the age of two.  August is SMA Awareness Month.
